Our Mission

The Allegheny Outing Club is run by students, for students. The whole idea of the club is for students with outdoor skills and experience to share their knowledge and love of nature with others, giving their peers a chance to get out into the wild and out of their comfort zones. We promise to provide a safe, healthy, friendly, and exciting experience for you every time you come aboard. We look forward to getting outside with you!

The Answers You Need

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Once you've joined our emailing list, we'll send you at least two emails every week.

The Weekly Update

  • This goes out every Sunday night after the Trip Leaders and Board meets.

  • The update will let you know what trips we have going out that weekend, as well as if we're hosting any skills sessions or events.

  • The update will also circulate other events happening on campus. If you're interested in advertising your campus event on our update, please contact us!

The Trip Sign Up Email​

  • This email goes out every Monday night at 9PM

  • This email includes core information such as the location, trip dates, costs (if any), and departure and return times. However, exact timing of trips is subject to change based on the needs of the students who sign up.

  • This will be how you sign up for the trips. A link to a google form will be included in the sign up email. Once you fill out the google form, your name will be added to the trip. If the trip is already full when you fill out the form, you'll be added to a waiting list that will be contacted if a student drops off the trip.

WHAT'S IT GOING TO COST ME?

Most of the time, these trips will cost you nothing. On every trip, we do ask for a $5 deposit as an incentive for you to commit to the trip, but your deposit is returned immediately following the trip. If an emergency occurs where you cannot make your trip, email the club at outing@allegheny.edu, or let your specific trip leader know, and your deposit will be returned.

Occasionally, we also run more intense trips. These trips involve more complex activities like backpacking or whitewater rafting where a reservation must be purchased or we need to collect money for food for participants. For these types of trips, we do charge a small fee to help cover ticket or equipment costs. This will usually range between $5-$20 thanks to funds from the Outdoors Club covering the rest of the cost.
